Photo Blog of Karpenisi

The town of Karpenisi as seen from my hotel balcony.

Sheepherding dogs blocking us from moving up the mountain till the sheep were off the road. This dog was in front of car and we had one on each side of us and one behind the car to prevent us from moving. No shepherd in sight....just the dogs.

The bus that takes you to the snow centre at the top of the mountain. I have no idea if they still use it.

That mountain is where the snow centre is. That is also where we changed our flat tire from hitting a rock in the middle of the street on the way up. Maybe we should have taken that bus.

The Big Chicken. Since my son thought he discovered a new species of giant chickens, he took this picture. I told him it was a turkey and he thought it was beautiful. Raising a child in the city means he can identify all the sports cars manufactured in the free world but he couldn't tell the difference between a chicken and a turkey.

Mist formations on the way down from Karpenisi. I must have taken at least 2o photos of them. The scenery reminds me of the Cabot Trail back home in Nova Scotia.

The dogs look so cool and did you tell your son that the wonderful new chicken species that he discovered probably has less than a month to live!

Looks lovely there. Although if I want a mountainous setting, I think I'll always head to Litochoro. Loved it there.

I had to laugh about your son not knowing the turkey. I think if I didn't know what a turkey looked like and I saw that and thought it could be a giant chicken I might be slightly afraid. Crazy giant chicken from hell.

omg, had to lol at your son not being able to tell a chicken from a turkey!! Inner city kids. What are they like? After staying with his grandparents for five weeks my kid can now tell the difference between cow poo and horse poo. Cool Huh? He also has kittens everytime he passes the new mini. What the hell am I going to do?

Hey Witcherella!

LOVE the misty photos and my nephew's turkey/chicken confusion.

Wish I was there on the vacation with you. :-(

I miss you all terribly. Kisses to C, J and you of course.

2005 was the Year of the Big Chicken.
2001 was the Year of the Giant Water Spider. He saw a crab in the water and didn't know what to call it.
When he was a toddler, we read all the "My Animals/Numbers/Colours" series and I was surprised to find out that he didn't know what the "big chicken" really was. I took these things for granted growing up in Canada. I just assumed all kids just automatically know what crabs and turkeys look like when they're not in a pot or served for Christmas dinner. If my father is reading this, he'll be so disappointed in me. LOL

Diva, your son is soooooooo lucky. I used to love going to visit farms when I was young as well...so much so that I became a vegetarian at the age of 14. I couldn't stand the fact that I would have to eat the animals I was making pets out of. 25 years later, I still can't stomach it. LOL City kids need some mud on their clothes, leaves in their hair and fun in their lives. I think they're missing out on so much by living in the city.

Scruff...the mist was enchanting...that's why I have 20 photos of it. LOL

Mel...I've never been to Litochoro, but I might go if you were to post some pics of it on your blog. In fact, I never even heard of the place till I started reading your blog. (LOL @ Giant Chicken from hell.)

Ellas...the dogs were amazing and huge. One of them tried to bite the car when my husband tried to move to pass the big black dog in the front. They meant business. LOL

Bee...you need to come over here again and take your nephew on some farm excursions. I feel bad that he's been to all the museums in Athens but can't identify common barnyard animals. Talk to Dad and tell him of our predicament.I told him he should have stayed here 6 months out of the year!
